Mariëtte Wolbert is a designer who will always search with an inquiring, curious and open attitude for the best suitable design. She has years of experience in the design of textile and she has particularly focused on interior. Her work has a recognizable signature and the combination of high-grade choice of materials, technical knowledge, clear idiom and a dash of lightness and humor have made her work highly appreciated . She herself describes her designs on the basis of ‘Delightful’, ‘Light’, ‘Logical’, ‘Luxurious’ and always with a ‘Smile’. In her native language these would translate to “5 L’s” (‘Lekker’, ‘Licht’, ‘Logisch’, ‘Luxe’ and with a ‘Lach’).
Distinctive for her designs is that the structure of the material engages in a dialogue with light and shadow and gives a sense of movement. Mariëtte uses her technical knowledge to create surprising and playful combinations, that always bring innovation into her work. Her ability to distill the essence out of abstract concepts give her designs the unique combination of customer friendly and truly original.
Work such as furniture and curtain fabrics, carpets, textile buttons and household textiles designed by Mariëtte Wolbert is already in the collection of several museums. Her work is for sale in several interior- and museum shops like Rijksmuseum, Het Nieuwe Instituut Rotterdam and Toolsgalerie Paris and has won several Awards. She graduated at The Design Academy Eindhoven in The Netherlands in 1988 and has since then created designs for several well-known brands.
In October 2016 she launched her own line of kitchen textiles, consisting of 3 different patterns; Woven Windmill, Baan-Brekend and Bella Salmonella. The conservator of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has immediately purchased these for the collection of the museum.
